I have Microsoft Office for Mac uninstalled but it is still sitting in Applications.
Then you haven't uninstalled it! So which files did you uninstall? đ
Installing Office 2011 for Mac is pretty simple, because Microsoft Office uses the standard Apple installer. Just double-click the installer icon to start the install process. There are no surprises, and you should be able to accept all the defaults unless youâre an advanced user and want to. Depending on where you bought Office 2011, you can retrieve the product key from Microsoft using the instructions on their website. If this doesn't work for you (ie. You probably don't own a legitimate copy of the program) I'm afraid you're out of luck, I believe the licensing information may be stored in the com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist file which is located in /library/preferences.
I still have my product key but cannot find a .dmg file anywhere.
You probably trashed it. More than likely the uninstaller was inside the .dmg file.
- Microsoft has been readying its latest update to Office for Mac, and recently released its first preview. We decided to give it a whirl and wanted uninstall Office 2011 to avoid any conflicts. Much to our surprise, uninstalling Office 2011 for Mac is a terribly complicated affair.
- Drag com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist to an external hard disk or USB key. On the NEW Mac: 1. Install your copy of Office 2011 on the new Mac computer 2. Click on the desktop or make sure your Mac menu is on âFinderâ 3. On the Go menu, click Computer Double-click your hard disk icon. The default name will be Macintosh HD.
I am also not aware of what version I have.
Highlight the icon>File>Get Info.
Also would it be possible to order a copy on disk or is that extra?
You would need to ask Microsoft since it's their product. Where did you purchase MW from? If from the AS, open up the App Store app which is on your Dock. Click on 'Purchases.' Otherwise, you should contact the vendor from where you purchased MW from.

So, you have a new Mac with OSX and youâre excited to use it. But, you donât have Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 installed on the new computer. You can find the installation disk, but how do you move the license? Believe it or not, it is actually possible to transfer Microsoft Office 2011 for Macâs license from one machine to another â and itâs just a matter of copying a few files. So far this process has worked on every computer I have tested it on, please let me know (in the comments) if this works for you too. Iâll take you through the dead simple step-by-step process of how to do this.
Briefly: With this process, youâll be able to effectively transfer a valid, activated license from one OS X computer to another.
Update: It appears as though .lockfiles mentioned are purely optional. If you donât have one (as shown in the photo below), there is no need to worry. This process works the same.
Update: Also, some of these folders are hidden, to shown them in finder on MacOS Sierra and above, use the key combination of CMD + SHIFT + .
I should note too, these files and folders are named in very similar ways. Itâs easy to get tripped up. Take this process slow, move through each file one at a time, not missing anything.
