Ok, not really expecting much but here it goes.
I updated my old laptop (LG P420) to windows 10 just because it suggested I do so. It ran win7 previously. After the update was finished it just kept booting. The windows logo appeared, then a black screen and what looked like a flicker of a window, then it started all over again.
There is a message 'for LG smart recovery, press F11' when you start the laptop. Pressing F11, however, resulted in a beeper sound, nothing more. All I could do was go into BIOS but that didn't help.
Since it seemed like a dead end and I wasn't able to do anything besides booting over and over I decided to install win8, which I had on DVD. I had to do a stand alone instal (without your existing settings) since I couldn't get into windows.
So that worked and I got into windows but there is no sound. It says no device has been installed for that. So I went to google for drivers but none of them work. There is a red X on top of my sound volume control icon.
The laptop in question: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-LG-P420-N-AE21G-Notebook.60803.0.html
Apparently it has:
Intel Cougar Point PCH - High Definition Audio Controller
Installing this http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds024884 just turns the screen black and nothing happens.
So if anyone has any idea how to either
1) get the sound working on win8.1
or alternatively
2) revert everything I did (I know it's possible to revert windows updates etc. but that is done in windows, and so it didn't work for me here), that would be great.
TL;DR: UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 10 JUST MIGHT FUCK YOU. Also it's pretty meh, I have it on my desktop.
